Mr. Thomas Finnerty, aged 32, who was acting as line umpire in a Rugby match at Invercargill, was running up the line to signal “touch” when an opposin' wing-threequarter dived for the ball near the line. The two men collided at the 25 flag. Mr. Finnerty had both bones in the lower part of his left leg broken and was removed to hospital.
