WILLING TO TALK, BUT NOT ON LEGISLATION

TRANSPORT REPORT CITY AND LOCAL BODIES The Auckland City Council is at present not prepared to discuss, w*th other local bodies, the forming of legislation to follow the Transport Commission’s report, but is willing, in the meantime, to discuss questions arising from the report. Following a conference between tho Mayor. Mr. George Baildon, tho Deputy-Mayor. Mr. A. J. Entrican, the Town Clerk, Mr. J. S. Brigham and Mr. J. A. C. Allum. chairman of tho Tramways Committee, on Saturday, a reply to this effect has been sent to the other local bodies. Tho four conferred concerning a letter from the local bodies which asserted that a deputation from the local bodies to put forward views on the finding of the Transport Commission would be merely wasting time. A discussion with a view to legislation was desired by the local bodies. The following reply has been eent by the Town Clerk to Mr. S. Gray, in his capacity as secretary of the committee of local bodies: “Regarding the suggested conference of a committee of local bodies with the Auckland City Council in connection with the findings of the Transport Ctommission, I am directed by the Mayor to state that in view' of the fact that tl# City Council has not yet completed its •onsideration of the transport report, it is unable at this juncture to confer with the local bodies on the subject of legislation. The council is continuing its meeting on Tuesday next and will then be pleased to receive the representatives of local bodies and discuss with them questions arising out of the report."
