PRIZE FOR BEST PLAY
SUGGESTION TO IYA MEETING OF COMMITTEE A prize for the best locally written play, especially suitable for broadcasting purposes, was suggested by Mr. F. MeCallum at a meeting of the musical and dramatic committee at IYA. A recommendation to the Broadcasting Company to this effect was decided upon. Mr. MeCallum further suggested the reading of short plays with accompanying comments. The question was deferred until further details can be obtained. It was also suggested that the Little Theatre Society might contribute one of its plays as a studio performance. The finalising of details was left in the hands of Mr. MeCallum. The Broadcasting Company forwarded a letter received from a lis-tener-in, suggesting that an amateur night might be held at the station as distinct from the regular engagements of professional artists. The question was discussed but it was felt that at the moment no opportunity existed for the presentation of such programme, and it was decided to forward a recommendation to the company to thi» effect. Mr. J. F. Montague suggested that artists should be requested to avoid
the frequent performance of hackneyed items, and it was decided to forward the reef mmendation to the company. The programme as completed for tne “mystery night” on August 29 was submitted to members. It was decided to confirm the gramme subject to including a further 25 minutes gramophone selections, order that an opportunity might given to test reproduction of the ous records.
