MUNICIPAL MUSIC

CHOIR, ORGAN AND SOLOS

An excellently balanced programme of municipal music delighted a large audience at the Town Hall on Saturday night. The Municipal Choir, the city organist, Mr. Maughan Barnett, and the talented Miss Beatrice Elliott combined to provide a feast of music. From the opening chorus, “Say Hove If Ever Thou Didst Find” (Dowland), the choir proved itself to be in great voice, following with "Great God of Love” (Pearsall), Psalm 150 (Franck), "O Wild West Wind” (Elgar) and the Fairy Chorus from "The Immortal Hour” (Broughton). Finally the choir sang a popular bracket of national songs "Dear Harp of My Country” and “Blue Bonnets over the Border.” Miss Beatrice Elliott sang splendidly Massenet’s 'll Est Doux, 11 Est Bon” and two other numbers* “Song of the Open” (Frank La Forge) and "Elsa’s Dream” (Massenet), and was applauded with enthusiasm. The organ selections included the Trumpet Piece and Poco Allegro (Purcell), “Priere and Toccata” (Boell- | man) and "Finlandia” (Sibelius). The choir organist was Mr. Edgar Randal, and the accompanist Mr. Leo Whittaker. Norma Talmadge is a tennis fan. Miss Talmadge, for a while, took daily lessons from Alexander, of the famous tennis team of Hackett and Alexander. Aside from her interest in the game, she feels that the exercise keeps her in splendid condition for her work. Hollywood is now tennis-mad: formerly it was Mali Jong mad, before i that bridge, and so it goes. Stars, j after all. are just like other people. } anxious f r a hobby and grateful for i the relaxation it gives them.

The sinister bouse of Jimmy tl « Hangman, occupied bv Hobart Bo: - worth in the t*ole of Chief Jus* tice of Ireland, will be one of the outstanding ’ features 'if “Hangman's House” which Fox will shortly exhibit in this Dominion. It is a typical Irish, castle, offset by a moat, and occupying the crest of a hill in the centre of a. 50 acre tract. This structure was erected at tremendous cost, and w\i* used exclusively for this great picture, based on Donn Byrne’s novel. Victor McLaglen has the starring role with June Col Iyer in the leading featured part.
