RIALTO AND REGENT, EPSOM

“THE FLIGHT COMMANDER”

“The Law of the Range,” a stirring tale of Texas in the 80’s, will be shown at the Rialto and Regent (Epsom) Theatres this evening, with Tim McCoy in the leading role. The story commences when Jim and Billy Lockhart are travelling with their parents. Indians kill the parents and capture Billy, who in later years becomes an outlaw. Jim escapes from the Indians when he sees his parents killed, and in manhood becomes a famed and fearless Texas ranger. By a trick of fate he is given the task of hunting his own brother, who is known as “the Solitare Kid.” The brothers meet through Betty Dallas, an intending settler, with whom they both fall in love. “The Flight Commander,” the second attraction, is a story of the British air force in China. A leading role is portrayed by Sir Alan Cobham, K.8.E., the interpid British airman.

“The Dove,” Norma Talmadge’s first United Artists’ picture, will be released shortly in Auckland. The cast includes Noah Beery and Gilbert Roland. Photographic effects in “The Dove” are said to be so novel that the United Artists studio was closed to visitors while certain scenes were being filmed. Director West, speaking of this production, says: “Miss Talmadge achieves new heights in stardom by brilliantly enacting a role entirely different from any of her previous characterisations ”
