SAFETY ZONE GOES
CLEARING QUEEN STREET
Yesterday afternoon there was a tramway safety zone in Queen Street near Vulcan Lane. This morning it had gone. Last night tramway workmen lifted it from the road and removed it in lorries. Shopkeepers in the vicinity raised no objection, and the zone was removed owing to the fact that it was in a bad position following the widening of Vulcan Lane. It could not have been shifted without either fouling Wyndham Street or being too near the Victoria or Fort Street stops. The zone and the stop have therefore been removed.
