Quieter Tone in Banks
FIRM DEMAND FOR COALS
T A QUIETER tone in banking and a wider spread interest l\ in insurances were the two features of business on ’Change this morning.
The market for banks and insurances shows little movement, although there was slightly less demand for the former this morning. A wide range of insurances was listed. The loan and agency section is in good tone. North Auckland Farmers’ Co-op. scrip shows a slight hardening tendency. Coals are steady, with the scrip of all tho profit earning companies meeting with a firm demand.
Miscellaneous shares register practically no movement. A seller of Tonson Garlick’s came in at midday at 13s 6d. A quieter tone is registered in the market for gilt-edged stocks, although the prices mostly remain steady. Business at this morning’s early call: On ’Change—Milne and Choyce (deb. stk.), 24s 6d. Business at midday: Reported— Staples Breweries, 365; Morris Hedstrom, 20s 9d; ‘Waihi Mining, 12s lOSd; Glaxo, £9l.
