POLICE ARREST BOLTING MAORIS STOLEN GOODS RECOVERED Press Association. GISBORNE, To-day. The police investigation# into * series of burglaries in the Waiapu district have culminated in the arrest of three Maori men and two youths. Within the knowledge of the police, six burglaries were committed since the beginning of List month, principally at stores of the Waiapu Farmer-’ Company, the value of the goods stolen being £6O. Sergeant Carrol and Constable raided the pa where two of the men concerned lived, and recovered a portion of the stolen goods, but the birds had flown. The police officers set out before daylight upon an arduous ride into the heart of the Raukuman. Ranges, and after a journey of 4» miles over rough bush tracks arrived back with the two prisoners, and th*balance of the stolen property. In the police court to-day, Awanui George Taiapa, Hamara Te Maro, and Charlie Ward pleaded guilty to th< burglaries. They were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Another native, Philip Natenga. was sen tenced to one month's iinprisonmen for receiving stolen property, and th* two youths implicated in the theft were sent to the children’s rourt.
