“The Perfect Man”
Tennessee Has Him VARIED ACCOMPLISHMENTS Tennessee, already famous for other reasons, has produced “the perfect man,” and he is to be a Rhodes scholar. The judges who selected him as the State’s nominee called him perfect. There were fifteen other candidates, but none of them had a chance against Mr. William Everett Derryberry, who, said the judges, was a man “whose like we never saw before.” When he gets through Oxford he is going to be a professor of English. Just now he is the best student in the University of Tennessee. Mr. Derryberry has never had a grade lower than “A,” which is the highest grade there is. He has won three faculty scholarship medals for highest class averages, and “expects to break this record before graduating in June.” He also swims, plays baseball, golf and basketball as few others can. and as a half-back he was a member of a football team, the performance of which was as perfect as his own. But his versatility does not end there. He is president of the Student Council and Glee Club, singq, plays in the band, directs a church choir, and is a member of the Knoxville Y.M.C.A. Cabinet!
