READY FOR ACTION

Pacers and Trotters Will Usher in New Season To-Morrow

BIG CARNIVAL AT ADDINGTON

THE 1928-29 lijrlit-liarness season will be ushered in at Addington to-morrow in what promises to be a most auspicious manner. The New Zealand Metropolitan Club has arranged an attractive card which appealed strongly to owners and trainers, with the result that the cream of the Dominion’s pacers and trotters will be seen in action.

The National carnival at Addington, while opening the new season, is also one of the most important functions of the trotting year at Addington, and it creates general interest in the sport throughout New Zealand. Being the first big fixture of the season, the fields are usually large, and quality is also well represented. A glance through the excellent list of acceptances posted for to-morrow shows that the 1928 function will be as successful from every viewpoint as its predecessors. Many horses displaying improvement as the old season wanes come forward in August ready to prove their claim to promotion, and receive their proficiency certificates, which gain them admission to the higher classes. With suitable track conditions others who are just outside the pale of New Zealand Cup standard, have excellent prospects of becoming eligible for the rich November prize, a factor which adds a great deal of interest to the proceedings. At the time of writing everything points to conditions being favourable, in which case fast times should be recorded both in the pacers’ and trotters' sections, as in each department candidates of splendid calibre are engaged The bells will be set in motion again after the brief winter silence with the

The field is a good one of improving square-gaiters with two. in Brigand and Maxegin, off the front, who will make the task of those behind them pretty difficult. The former, howev* r, may not elect to go solid, and Maxegin will be the better choice, Nelson Boy and Sarsaparilla are a useful pair, and the former’s consistency will help him through. Lady Fan is always worthy of respect, and if Great Change could be relied on to do it right, he would have a good show. FToud Ata is on the improve, and Kerrwood Bell reads nicely. She is also engaged later in the day. Nelson McKinney, Happy Rosa and Nourmahal are possibilities, and there is Tamerlane, who is a brilliant customer. He too claims a later engagement. Maxegin will be favourite with good support of KerrWood Bell, but should she not start Nelson Boy may be next choice. Weight carriers will next parade for the ELECTRIC HANDICAP Of £300; Limit. 2.15; saddle. 1 mile

Some recognised good saddle merchants will try conclusions in this heat and of the limit lot Sahib has a ton of speed, which if used to best advantage would land him home. Hector’s Own is more than useful in this department, and Park wood is just likely to bob up and upset the pot. Pointalena is consistent and Kotuku Jack only wants to be right to make it interesting. Tommy Direct is a speedy customer that has struck form again, and General Bingen never runs a bad race. King Pointer and Loch Moigh are a fine pair, capable of silencing the opposition, but they have later engagements, and may elect to chase the two-mile harness event. Darknite is not by any means out of the running. Given a start Loch Moigh and King Pointer will appeal most, but in the event of their declining Tommy Direct and Parkwood will have a good following. The way will then be cleared for the chief item of the day*, the

Quality and quantity marks the setting for this contest, and one of the limit brigade in Daphne de Oro promises to be in strong demand, and also to play a prominent part in the final decision. Harold Thorpe will also have friends, but both Zenith and Gold Jacket appear to hold him safe. If Zenith is ready he will take a power of stopping, while the Auckland pacer is in the pink of condition for the fray If Andy Bryce holds the reins. Gold Jacket may be the public fancy Logan Chief is on a handy mark, and with the going to his liking should be capable of putting up a royal fight and may be preferred to his stablemate, Tom Thumb. Peterwah has recent form to recommend him, and Peter Bingen may not be quite ready for the journey, but quality can be counted as a possibility. Nothing is doing better than Queen’s Own, and she may be the best of the remainder. If the going

turns out soft Waitaki Girl would make u bold bid for victory, but the rest will hardly be ready for a solid two-mtu contest, Gold Jacket will probably Logan Chief and Zenith next in demand. The next item of interest will be the

Locanda Boy has improved snip ciently of late to say he will be dangerous in tliis company, while Mate O' Mine should also be a nuisance to the opposition. Some Wilkes is W overdue, but the front lot may find Kingscraft and Eugene de Oro troublesome. In fact, the former will take a lot of beating. Revolt is a sturdy useful sort and capable of putting up a hard fight. Dillon Huon will be in the right condition, but may be retained for the shorter journey. Sarella will be a real thorn in the side of the opposing forces, while the Tomkinson bracket, Shadwoland and Pageant, must play a big part- The latter's Epsom form was good enough to give him a chance. Sarella looks like being favourite, with Kingscraft well supported. Tomkinson's bracket will also claim attention. The high-class square-gaited fraternity will step out for the

Swiftbino earned a reputation last season for consistency, and despite a tendency to break badly won severs] heats. He will be in tighter company this time and may find Kenwood Bell and Real the Great going too solid for him. Both mares are on the improve. Tamerlane is not generally looked upon as a two-miler, but the way he stuck it out at Alexandra Park in the mud with Rose Bingen gained him a lot of friends over a distance. Cannonball is one that should win good money this year and as he is very forward he will be in strong demand. Sister Beatrice, Ezear and Money Spider are a nice trio that will keep those in front bus;. Cannonball may receive most support, but Tamerlane and Real the Great will not be friendless. There will be a lot of interest taken in the parade for the

This field may not be big, but it savours of class and will be one of the exciting contests of the day. Vesuvius is doing great work at headquarter and if he repeats it on the day will nicely placed and if reserved for this take a lot of beating. King Pointer is nicely placed and if reserved for this item will be well sought after. Jackie Audubon is ready to tackle a hot opposition, and Jolly Pet is like to step a merry gait. Billy Sea- has improved since going South, while Loch Moigh is a genuine customer. Then there is Native Prince, but he also figures in the next event, and that may be hts mission. Trimmer is another that can scamper over the journey and thtrotter Young Blake will keep them ail busling. King Pointer reads bes' but Trimmer and Jackie Audubon are a likely pair. The next item to come u;> w decision is the
