“TRIAL OF MARY DUGAN”

EXTENSION OF SEASON Owing to the success of “The Trial of Mary Dugan” the management has decided to extend the season of that play for one extra performance, and it will be presented again next Monday evening. On Tuesday night next, Mr. Leon Gordon and the brilliant J. C. Williamson, Ltd., dramatic company, which includes the charming American actress, Miss May Collins, will stage a special revival of the delightful comedy, “Scandal.” This very interesting play, which was written by Cosmo Hamilton, scored an outstanding suiccess when it was in Wellington recently, Mr. Gordon and Miss May Collins achieving big personal triumphs. The story hinges on the gossip of a large city concerning the claudestine visits of a millionaire’s daughter to the studio of an artist, and her discovery there by members of the indignant family. One of the most effective instances in “Scandal” is when Franklin, the supposed husband of the girl, orders her to bed in a luxuriously-appointed room, turns out the lights after putting the key of the room in his pocket and walks towards her.

Then when he says: “If you and I were the only two people in the world, and were alone on a desert island, I would build you a hut on the far end of it and treat you as a man.” A sigh of relief invariably issues through the audience.
