THEATRICAL THRILLS

“TRIAL OF MARY DUGAN”

i ¥ i KI i'

Is Mary Dugan guilty? That is the question being asked and answered nightly at His Majesty’s Theatre. “The Trial of Mary Dugan” is the latest in theatrical thrills. For the evening the whole of the audience becomes a jury. The curtain is never lowered and the intervals becomes Court adjournments. Mary Dugan is accused of the murder of her lover, a married man with whom she has been living. Things look black for her until the arrival of her brother, who eventually solves the mystery. Mary’s cross-examina-tion is one of the most harrowing things seen on the stage for many a day. Nothing is left unsaid. The cold, horrible facts of Mary’s past life are dragged into the glare of day. But there is a silver lining to this cloud of Court disclosures. Mr. Leon Gordon takes the principal role, that of prosecuting counsel, and makes it particularly realistic. Miss May Collins takes the arduous role of Mary. Mr. Leyland Hodgson, Mr Frank Bradley, Miss Henrietta Cavendish, Mr. Campbell Copelin, Miss Noel Boyd and the rest of a large cast play with conviction.
