ROWING CLUB SITE
ST. GEORGE’S NEW HOME POSITION FAVOURABLE That the new boatshed site offered by the Auckland Harbour Board to the St. George’s Club will be acceptable to that booy was the opinion voiced by an official of the club to a SUN representative. The new site, which is on Orakei Point, just inside the waterfront road to Orakei, is stated to be very conveniently situated for the club, providing suitable access to the harbour is available through the bridge shortly to be constructed. This point has been taken up by the club with the Minister of Publie Works, a request having been made that sufficient width in the spans be provided to permit tne safe passage of boats. An engineer of the department has gone into this question with officials of the club, and it is understood that a favourable report has gone forward. If the necessary assurance is received the club will immediately go ahead with the work of shifting the clubhouse and sheds. Although most of the rowing will still be done in the harbour, it is considered that the enclosed area of water will be largely used at high tide, when the weather is too rough to permit harbour work.
