The Southern Cross arrived at Point Cook after a flight occupying slightly over five hours. The airmen stated that the engines worked satisfactorily. They were pleased the wireless signals were being clearly received in New Zealand. They expect to stay in Melbourne for a few days, and then hop off for Western Australia. A Sydney message yesterday said: Squadron-leader C. E. Klngsford Smith, accompanied by Flight-I.ieu-tenant C. T. P. Ulm (co-ccmmander). Mr. H. A. Litchfield (navigator) and Mr. T. H. McWilliam (wireless operator), left the Richmond airdrome at 10.35 a.m. to-day for Point Cook. Their flight to Perth will be undertaken from there. A writ has been issued on behalf of Robert Hitchcock, an aviation ground engineer, claiming from Smith. Ulm and Keith Anderson the sum of .£ 1.000. Hitchcock alleges the airmen agreed to pay him this amount prior to their departure for America to undertake the transpacific flight.
A letter from Lieutenant-Colonel H C Brinsmead, Melbourne. Controller of civil Aviation in the Commonwealth, has been h?, C 4" n d by Mr pR - Climie. the Came " Progress f-eague organiser, in reeard to the Tasman flight. The letter states that information supplied by Mr. Climie of arrangements for the reception at the Wlgram Airdrome has been passed on to Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith and Flight-Lieutenant Ulm. and that Mr. Climie may expect a further announcement from them soon. The management committee in Christchurch is making complete arrangements. It is expected now that the flight will he made about September 1.
