GOOD SHEPHERD MISSION

“A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE”

ANNUAL MEETING HELD “I regret very much that this order is not growing more rapidly,” said his Grace, Archbishop Averill, at the annual meeting of the Order of the Good Shepherd, yesterday afternoon; “the number of sisters is not commensurate with the growth of the city and suburbs of Auckland.” “The sisters of the order.” continued his Grace, “have set all young women a wonderful example. We have in this Mission House a living picture of what Christian life should be, and young people should realise that pleasure is not the only thing. “I want to thank the committee for the work they have done in the past year and to express my admiration for the balance-sheet and accounts. It is a joy and pleasure to come to at least one meeting in the year where there are no financial troubles. “Particularly* I wish to thank the sisters for the work they have done in visiting our institutions. The work is done in a way in which none but themselvse could do it, and I hope they may be spared for many years to carry it on.” The accounts and balance-sheet were taken as read and passed by the meeting. They showed a total sum

in the savings bank pf £2,446 15s, and it was mentioned that there was only £IOO owing on the mission buildings. Commenting on the balance-sheet, the Rev. W. E. Lush, chaplain of th_ order, drew attention to the low cos of the work which had been done. * is perfectly amazing.” he said, 'tna it can be done so cheaply. I wish to exprew my sincere admiration for the which the sisters have done. “I have been asked by Sister Harm to speak,” said the Rev. Gordon B “on the express condition that I do n praise her or the sisters.
