A.A.A.’S RAPID GROWTH
MEETING OF COMMITTEE MOTOR-SPIRIT FOR MEMBERS The phenomenal growth of the Auckland Automobile Association was reported to the monthly meeting of the committee last evening. A total of 269 new members joined during the past month, making the present membership 7,521. The association has decided to publish a quarterly bulletin of the A. A.A. activities. The North Island Motor Union advised that it had taken legal opinion on the point whether the newly-gazetted motor regulations over-rule the existing bylaws. The legal advice is to the effect that the regulations do not over-rule the by-laws. In the interests of uniformity the association decided to support the North Island Motor Union in approaching the Minister of Public Works. It was decided to communicate with the superintendent of police urging that bicycles be compelled to carry proper rear-reflectors, similar to those now necessary on motor-cars.
The Auckland Harbour Board wrote pointing out that parking of passenger cars on their wharves is prohibited by by-law, but that the traffic manager always sets aside a space for parking during the arrival or departure of passenger vessels. A committee, consisting of Messrs. Grayson, Butcher, King and La wry, was set up to go into. the question of importing motor-spirit for members. The association decided to refuse support to the North Island Motor Mutual Insurance Company, and to carry on with the Lloyd’s insurance scheme. A donation of £5 os was authorised to the Auckland Motor-Cycle Club to assist it in its Supreme Court action against the City Council regarding the interpretation of the regulations governing pil-lion-riding.
