MOTOR-CYCLE RACING
LATEST RECORDS News has just come through by cable that Hicks, riding a Velocette at Brooklands, on July 3, broke the world’s record for 350 c.c. machines, covering 92.83 miles in the hour. The 100-mile record was also broken, Hicks averaging a speed of 92.9 S m.p.h. on his Velocette. Hicks has been particularly consistent in long distance races in the last couple of years. It was only a couple of months ago that he won the 200 miles sidecar race at Brooklands with a 21 Velocette and sidecar, averaging the very highest speed. • In the Junior Tourist Trophy race he finished fifth, and the consistency of the make of machine he was riding is exemplified in the fact that Alex. Bennett on a Velocette, won this event, and Willis on a Velocette was second. Hicks was also placed very prominently in the 1927 Tourist Trophy race.
