Maori Queen’s Success | OVER £I,OOO RAISED The final stage of the Ohakune queen t carnival was reached on Saturday ( evening, when at the conclusion of the three days’ bazaar held in the Patri- j otic Hall the final count of votes took place. i One of the leading features of the \ bazaar was the queens’ stalls. These were gaily decorated, and were laden | with a splendid display of articles, ' which found a ready sale. , The stallholders were as follow: — I Town Queen: Mesdames W. Richardson, Cranston, Carver, Ammunsen. | Junction Queen: Mesdames Y'ork, S. Herbert, Cronin, Hamlin, Woodcock McCarthy. ‘ Maori Queen: Mr. Tlios. Te Patu. M. G. Hepetema, Ben Williams, Mrs. I Peters, Mrs. T. Te Patu. Mrs. T. Aka - pita, Ada Carroll, Mrs. Merin, Emily i Tukapua, Mr. P. Ruka. ' Country Queen: Mesdames Dwyer. Richardson. G. Goldfinch, Misses George j and R. Goldfinch. The refreshment room was super- - vised by Mesdames Moran, Richiel, and I Maloney. During the evening songs were con- | tributed, and a dance was given by two little girls, Ina Carver and Eileen . Plunkett. Several musical items by ‘ supporters of the Maori Queen were much enjoyed. | Shortly before the close of the proceedings the result of the election of the carnival queen was announced. . The Maori queen had outdistanced her competitors by 10,000 votes. The res Lilt of the voting is as fol- | lows: Maori Queen, 28,140 votes: Junction Queen, 18,090 votes; Country i Queen, 17.945 votes; Town Queen, ' 15,306 votes. The proceeds of the carnival will, | it is anticipated, exceed £I,OOO. Messrs. F. J. Cody and W. Wood- | cock, the joint secretaries, received a ' special word for praise for the manner in which they carried out their | duties.
