BUSY WEEK FOR CLUBS
FORTHCOMING PRIZE NIGHTS To-morrow evening the Takapuna Boating Club will hold its annual distribution of prizes and dance in the clubhouse, Bayswater. A most successful season has been enjoyed. Tbe most interesting of the year’s activities was the Cornwell Cup contest, which did a great deal to bring before aquatic Auckland the merits of the one-design boats in the training of boys as yachtsmen. „ _ The prizes will be distributed by the president, Mr. Geo. Winstone, jun. Dancing will take place until a late hour. YACHT SQUADRON FUNCTION The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron will hold its fifty-sixth annual distribution of prizes and social evening on Friday, August 10, in the clubrooms, Endean’s Buildings. It is noteworthy of the squadron that all its trophies are regularly presented by a number of good friends. Thus no demand is made for outside assistance. This year the awards will be presented by Mr. E. V. JMiller, veteran owner of Moana, and a fine yachtsman. The squadron is thus honouring one of its oldest members, and one who has done much to promote the prosperity of the club. MANUKAU CRUISING CLUB The Manukau Cruising Club will hold its annual meeting to-morrow evening in the Orphans* Hall, Onehunga. The club has enjoyed a record season, according to the annual report. The membership is now 253. There are 26 launches and 12 yachts registered with the club. The model boats number 21. In view of the fact that no nomination fees are charged, the finances show a fair credit balance. Twelve races were held for launches, and 16 for yachts, and the models had 10. An outstanding feature of the racing was the performance of the 14ft Sea Gnome, which accounted for the six yacht cups. The champion cup was won by Myra, and Regal captured the harbour and cruising points cups for launches. Master J. Keegan won the Kemp Cup, nnd Master Vickery the Jackson Cup. The club was represented on the Waitemata in the Lipton Cup contest by Varuna. A very fine race resulted in a dead heat with the Akarana Yacht Club’s representative. Valeria. A hard worker in the interests of the club is the secretary. Mr. J. C. Sibbin, who has with him an energetic body of committeemen and officers.
