The death occurred last evening of Miss Annie McPherson, at the age of 75. Miss McPherson was born in Scotland, and in 1861 she arrived in Auckland from India with her Lather, the late Captain James McPherson, who was in the Commissariat Transport Corps of the 70th Surrey Regiment. For four years she lived at Penrose and then removed to Hamilton, where she had lived for the last 63 years. In the early days Miss McPherson underwent the many hardships which attended pioneering in the Waikato. There were frequent reports of Maori attacks on white men, but Miss McPherson and her sister were never molested. Miss McPherson’s father, after serving through the Crimean War and the Indian Mutiny, served during the Maori wars of 1861-5. for which he received the New Zealand Medal and was granted 300 acres of land at Hamilton.
