LATE MR. G. F. CATER
IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL The funeral of the late Mr. G. F. Cater, the well-known bandmaster, which took place yesterday, was one of the largest seen in Auckland. Near the home in Maidstone Street, Grey Lynn, crowds lined the route. The cortege left the home and proceeded along Karangahape Road headed by the band of the First Auckland Regiment, in which the late Mr. Cater was a lieutenant for many years, the Waterside Workers’ Band, Burnand’s Professional Band, and the Ponsonby Boys’ Brass Band. On the march to Symonds Street, where the cortege separated the bands played the “Dead March,” and “At Sunset.” Representatives of the Auckland City Council, the Education Board, the Hospital Board, the Auckland Bowling Club, the Savage Club, the Orphans’ Club, the Blind Institute and the Musicians’ Union were present. The interment took place at Hillsbrough Cemetery.
