“CHRIST WAS SUPREME”
MIRACLES WERE INTRUSIONS ON PSYCHIC LAWS “The greatest of all miracles was Christ; He was supreme among men. There is no picture of any man so indelible and incomparable,” said the Rev. W. D. Morrison-Sutherland last evening at the Mount Albert Presbyterian Church. He was preaching on “Miracles” and said that a new generation had arisen and it was not quite so sure that evolution involved agnosticism and materialism as the last generation was. People should not take everything they read in the Bible literally. Commonsense should be used and what was given as poetry, parables or fables should be taken as such. Tho attitude of scientific men was neutral. Many who used to be sceptical admitted that there was an aspect of the present age which could not be accounted for in their philosophies. No scholar now spoke of miracles as impossible. The miracles of Chi-ist were bound up in His preachings on personalities. To take these away Avould be to leave the Gospels bald and mutilated. His miracles were not violations of natural laws, but were intrusions on the higher psychic laws. The Rev. Mr. Morrison-Sutherland preached at yesterday morning’s service and there was an ordination and induction of elders. Large congregations were at both services.
