X-RAYS FOR HOSPITAL

OPOTIKI AGITATION DEPUTATION TO WELLINGTON (From Our Own Correspondent) OPOTIKI, Saturday. As a result of the public meeting held at the beginning of the week in connection with the installation of the X-ray plant in the Opotiki Hospital, a strong deputation waited on the Opotiki Hospital Board and asked it to take action to endeavour to persuade Dr. Valintine to change his opinion, and to allow the plant, which is at present lying in the hospital, to be installed. The deputation considered the department's ultimatum that a radiologist must work the plant as ridiculous. Dr. Candy, a member of the deputation, said the demand for a radiologist was absurd. Radiologists in the Dominion could be counted on both hands. The chairman, Mr. H. P. Hogg, said the Government held all the cards. The board was anxious to do its duty, but it was not anxious to fight the heads of departments. They might get the plant if they went quietly about it, without abusing anybody. On the deputation withdrawng, the board decided that the chairman, Mr. Hogg, and Messrs. Reid and Moody be a deputation to wait on Dr. Valintine in Wellington. On Mr. Moody’s suggestion, it was decided to invite Dr. Valintine to come to Opotiki if the deputation was not successful. The petition which is now being prepared will be presented by the deputation.
