GOVERNMENT GIVES AID (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (United Service) LONDON, Thursday. In reply to a question in the blouse of Commons, the Prime Minister, Mr. Baldwin, said the Government, as he bad stated in December, 1925, did not think a Royal Commission to inquire into foreign competition in the iron and steel trades would serve any useful purpose. Mr. Baldwin claimed that the Government was carrying out its undertaking completely to assist the industry by the rate relief scheme, and the consequent reduction of rail freight.
