Gloria’s New Film Set in E. Africa
United Artists’ Plans Gloria Swanson’s next picture will be “The Swamp.” It will be the third of her series for United Artists Corporation. The first was "The Love of Sunya” and the second “Sadie Thompson.’ The story was written by Eric von Stroheim, who will direct the filming. The picture will be made in Los Angeles, and production will start shortly. The story has its locale in German East Africa, and abounds in action, colourful background and romance. While this will be the first time Von Stroheim will direct Bliss Swanson, the two have been individually associated with many well-known film productions in the last six years. United Artists also announce pictures in which Ernst Lubitsch will direct John Barrymore and Herbert Brenon will direct Ronald Colman. Other combinations of famous stars and directors who worked for United Artists were David Wark ciona swanson Griffith and Lillian Gish, Chuck Reisner and Buster Keaton, John S. Robertson and Mary Pickford, D. W. Griffith and Richard Barthelmess, Ernst Lubitsch and Mary Pickford, Edwin Carewe and Dolores del Rio, Henry King and Belle Bennett. Herbert Brenon and H. B. Warner, Clarence Brown and Rudolph Valentino, Fred Niblo and Douglas Fairbanks, James Cruze and Norms Shearer, and Charles Chaplin, Edna Purviance and Adolphe Menjou in "A Woman of Paris.” Their noted pictures include “The Birth of a Nation,” “Tess of the Storm Country,” “Resurrection,’ “Sorrel and Son,” “Rosita,” “Stella Dallas,” “Three Musketeers,” “The Eagle.” and “Ramona.”
