MISSIONS TO SEAMEN

THE WEEK’S ACTIVITIES Seamen from ships in port have made good use of the Missions to Seamen Institute during the week. On Monday evening the members of the Girls’ Branch of the Navy Leagu* entertained the visitors. The Mothers' Club of the Y.W.C.A. presented a musical programme on Tuesday evening, which was enjoyed by a big muster of seamen. Items were given by Mrs. Speakman, Miss Mandeno, Miss Edwards, Mrs. Baker, Miss Jean Douglas. Miss Mann, Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Bartley, Mrs. Wallace, Mrs. Forrest, Miss D. Mann, Mrs. Betliunc, Miss Burke and Master Cyril Baker. Members of the Girls' Friendly iSociety and Toe II conducted a social on Wednesday, and on Thursday night there was only standing room in the concert hull. As well as the men from the British ships there was a party oi 50 Japanese from the l’akuma and Idzumo. Chaplain Vickery welcomed the visitors to the institute. The arrangements were carried out by Mr*. Preston Chambers and members of the Harbour Light Guild. Mr. Norman Tate gave an exhibition of juggling, and vocal items were given by Mrs. Armstrong Kevin. Mrs. Partridge and Miss V. Harrison. Interesting items were also given by seamen from the British and Japanese ships. Refreshments were served by the guild members. Last evening there Was ;c bachelors’ night arranged by the seamen.
