Pilot Goes Aboard Yakuma in a Sling
T HE departure of the Japanese squadron this morning was not without excitement for Captain G. H. Lacy, who piloted the Yakuma out of the harbour. As preparations were made for the vessel's departure Captain Lacy teas standing on the wharf , near the gangway, talking to some friends. Without learning the gangway was hauled aboard and the mooring lines were let go. In the scramble of going away the pilot had been forgotten. But Captain Lacy is a resourceful man. He realised that he must get on board the vessel and that the method did not matter very much. In a few minutes the jovial pilot was Hanging in a sling in mid-air, ancl just as the vessel moved 'off he was deposited on the deck of the Yakuma, much to the amusement of those outlie wharf. The Japanese sailors smiled at this unusual method of taking on the pilot.
