MENTAL DEFECTIVES BILL

EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL ASKS FOR DELAY

A telegram was sent to the Minister of Health by the Council of the Auckland Educational Society last evening, asking whether the proposed Mental Defectives Bill is to be passed this session and urging that further time for the consideration of details is absolutely necessary. The telegram further said that there were widespread feelings of doubt and anxiety abroad, and urged that Professor Anderson and Professor Pitt, of Auckland, should be invited to give expert evidence on the Bill. Present at the meeting were Mr. A. G. Lunn, chairman of the council; Professor Anderson and Professor Belshaw, Messrs. E. C. Cutten, A. M. Seaman, Mahon. C. .T. Tunis, Misses E. M. Johnstone and Sandford, and Dr. E, P. Heale.
