WOMEN’S GOLF TOURNEY
PLAY AT ROSE BAY MISS KAY MAKES RECORD (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) SYDNEY, To-day. For the women’s golf tournament at the Rose Bay links yesterday there was dull, showery weather, with a heavycourse. The first qualifying round for the Australian women’s gold cup championship was begun. At the end of the first round the leading eight players were Miss Olive Ivay (New Zealand), 77: Miss McLeod (Victoria), 82; Mrs. Triglone (New Sciuth Wales), 82; Miss Hay (Victoria), S 4; Mrs. Gatehouse (Victoria), 85; Miss Susie Tolliurst (New South Wales), 85. Miss Kay played remarkable golf, especially over the last nine holes, which she did in 35. Her round of 77 broke the Rose Bay record for women players. Par is 76. Miss Kay made a few errors, chiefly on the greens going out, but she played clockwork golf coming home. Other players who were in the first 1C included Miss Snodgrass (New Zealand). The ladies* challenge bowl 36 holes stroke handicap is being played in conjunction with the championship. At the end of the first round the leaders were: Mrs. Slack (New South Wales), net score 75; Mrs. Binnie (New South Wales), 75; Miss M. Hill (New South Wales), 76; Miss O. Kay (New Zealand), 77.
Miss Payton and Mrs. Shailer Weston each scored 99 in yesterday's first round of the associates’ championship.
