Lieutenant-Colonel H. E. Pilkington, rB E Quartermaster-General, arrived from Wellington this morning by the Limited. Mr and Mrs. H. T. Morton, of Te Kuiti' sailed on Tuesday by the vorangi for Fiji, where they intend ‘spending a short holiday. Mr J. Watts, who for some time has been assistant-master at the Pio Pio Conso'idated School, has left to take an an appointment under the Wanganui Education Board at Palmerston Morth. The Rev. James Aitken, M.A., Presbyterian Moderator of New Zealand, is at present spending three weeks in Wellington at the request of the Presbyterian churches there. The Hon. G. J. Smith, M.L.C., has been elected chairman of the Canterbury College Board of Governors in succession to Mr. H. D. Acland, who has held, the position for the past 10 years. Mr. J. A. Punning, Rhodes Scholar for 1925, i® returning to the Dominion by the Corinthic, which is due in Wellington on August 27. He will take up a position on the staff of John McGlashan College in Dunedin. The Rev. M. W. P. Lascelles, secretary to the New Zealand Baptist Onion, who represented New Zeialand at the Baptist World Congress at Toronto, returned to Wellington by the Maunganui last evening. Mr. A. B. Thompson, president of the Auckland University College Students’ Association, was presented by the students last evening with a silver tea service on the occasion of his approaching marriage. Complimentary reference was made to Mr. Thompson's work on behalf of the association. Sir Victor Wilson, president of the Motion Picture Distributors’ Association of Australia, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Sixsmith. will arrive by the Ulimaroa on Tuesday, and will leave for Wellington that evening. Mr. Sixsmith is secretary and treasurer of Famous Lasky Films, of Australia. HOTEL REGISTER Grand.—Mr. E.
