MOTORISTS’ SUPPORT PETITION TO PARLIAMENT

It was reported to a meeting of th, committee last evening that applies tion has been made for permission to broadcast lectures from IYA statin, regarding the work and aims of th. association.
In reply to Mr. S. W. Gee, the chair, man said that until the result of the petition to Parliament was known and the Government’s intentions declared in respect to the application for a grant to ascertain the nature of the bed of the harbour for the foundations of the bridge, there was no in tention to seek empowering legislation either as to the site of the bridge or the creation of a rating area u security for loan money for construction work.
Donations of £lO 10s each had been made by the Waitemata County Conn cil and Birkenhead Borough Council. £3 3s by the Northcote Borough Council, and £2 2s by the Island Bay. Birkdale, Progressive Association Seven thousand additional signatures to the petition were obtained at the Winter Show. Mrs. J. W. McLaughlin, and Messrs. J. B. Tonar. R. Martin and A. P. Hopkins being thanked for their efforts in this connection.
