WHAT CHRISTCHURCH THINKS

The Sun’s man on the spot at Christchurch and Riccarton telegraphs the following summary of the prospects for to-morrow: The race track is in perfect order, and some first-class racing should be witnessed to-morrow. Only five runners have had their engagements continued in the Kennells Hurdles, and the winner should not be hard to locate. Rangi Sarto looks well, and with 10.6 he should be prominent, but he will meet strong opposition in Goldtown, who should run a big race. Gay Jim lias not raced over hurdles for some time, but he has been schooling well, and may be a place-gatter. A likely trio is Goldtown, Rangi Sarto and Gay Jim. If Message Boy has Improved since he raced at the South Canterbury Hunt Club’s meeting he will be difficult to head off in the Law r ford Steeplechase. He is a good jumper, and among such weak opposition he will keep his opponents busy. Ranui has a big load to carry in 11.8, but he looks well, and the Riccarton country is not likely to trouble him. Faloose and Puriri Jack may do best of the others, but those most prominent at the end may be Message Boy, Ranui and Faloose. The Hurdles Peneus gave a good exhibition over four hurdles with Red Fuchsia and Ned Kelly to-day, and he looks like going to the post a strong favourite for the Longbeach Hurdles. He looks in great fettle, and will be hard to head off. Brigadier Bill, Scion and Craigmore will claim attention from backers, and a light-weight, Nine of Spades, will also have to be taken into consideration. However, backers may pin their faith to Peneus, Brigadier Bill and Nine of Spades. Dubious is reported to have come through a strong preparation for his Orand National Steeplechase engagement, and his running in the Homeby Steeples should give a good line on his chsance in the more important engagement. Maunga has failed to impress sinc«? being at Riccarton, but Passin’ Through is very well and should be on hand .at the finish. The light-weight, Mainspring, should also give a good accour# of himself, but the likeliest appear to be Dubious, Mainspring and Passin’ Through. Winter Cup Trial

A big ffceld will go to the post for the Brabazon Handicap, for which First Sight is likely to see a short price in the betting. He has come through his trials excellently, and with his light weight will be bard to beat. Taboo looks none the worse for his recent racing, and with all his weight should be prominent at the end.

Solferite galloped smartly over four furlongs this morning, but he is none too sound. However, he should put up a good race, and might be in a place at the end. Royal Game, Tuahine and Nincompoop are others likely to run well, but those most prominent over the last furlong may be First Sight, Taboo and Solferite. Locarno has a big weight to carry in the Hunters’ Plate, but he is very well and should race prominently. Prompter is bound to have a big following, and the Riccarton trained Page Boy will also have admirers. Hyperion and Whiffler may do best of the remainder, but the likeliest appear to be Locarno, Page Boy and Hyperion. Beau Geste has not done much fast work since he won at Timaru, but he is very fit and should take all kinds of beating in the Flying Hack Handicap. Kalos, Broadmoor, Solfello and Meadow Lark are others who will not be neglected in the betting. Perhaps the favourites may be filled by Beau Geste, Kalos and Solfello. Hurly Burly’s smart gallop over six furlongs to-dav wall ensure her solid support in the Maiden Stakes, and with F. E. Jones in the saddle she should be hard to beat. Merivale is galloping well on the tracks, and she is sure to run a good race. Starshooter, Sarnia and The Viscount may do best of the remainder, but a likely three are Hurly Burly, Merivale and Starshooter. The following riding engagements have been announced for the ChFstchurch Hunt Club’s meeting tomorrow:—G. Salt: Gay Jim and Lord Leslie. D. Cotton: The Viscount. Amor and Beaming- J. Campbell: Greyfinch, Claymore and Tuahine. H. Burt: Passin* Through and Rangi Sarto. A. Messervey: Merivale. E. Shaw: Diana’s Lad, Nine of Spades, Message Boy and Royal Dispatch. A. E. Ellis: First Sight, Page Boy, Sarnia and Despot. A. McDonald: Peneus, Red Fuchsia (Brabazon Handicap). Kalos and Locarno. W. Scobie: Mainspring. APPEAL DISMISSED TRAINING OF WHITE WINGS Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. The Racing Conference appeal judges, Messrs. O. S. Watkins. H. F. Johnston and J. G. Duncan, have dismissed the appeal of G. A. Reid, owner of Lucky Rose, aaginst the Onslow Stakes at the Auckland Autumn Meeting being awarded to White Wings, the appeal being on the ground that White Wings was not trained under the personal superintendence of her owner, W. Scholium, as provided under part 20, rule 3, of the Rules of Racing. ARE YOU FIT TO MARRY? ARE YOU FIT TO MARRY? ARE YOU FIT TO MARRY?
