HUNT CLUB MEETING THE PROSPECTS (From Our Special Correspondent.) Although most of the sporting interest 'will be directed Riccartonwards. many sportsmen will spare the time to take more than a cursory glance at the card of the Poverty Bay Hunt Club, for, like the Gisborne Racing Club last week, the former gathering promises to be something of a record nature. Fields are good all round, with the Trial Handicap set down as a two-division affair, and as there are only eight races all told, it is quite likely that the totalisator will be open on each division. The following promise to be well supported in their engagements: Hunters’ Hurdles.— Ballyfarnon and Master Arch. Awapuni Hurdles. —Comedy Prince and Royal Heather. Ilexton Handicap.—Polonet and Cool Card. Fergusson Gold Cup Steeplechase.— Master Arch and Highway. Trial Handicap (first division). — Abisogne and Bold Front. FRANKLIN CLUB HOPE FOR EXTRA PERMIT The report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Franklin Racing Club on Monday evening by the president, Mr. Dynes Fulton, states that the club has continued to make progress. The club’s race meeting in the past season was favoured with fine weather and proved very successful. The loan of one of the floating permits I enabled the club on this occasion to 'hold two days’ racing. Substantial improvements had been made at the cJpb’s course at Pukekohe during the A large and up-to-date number .board had been provided, ten new loose* boxes had been erected, a large enclosure for motor vehicles had been fenced off, and a live hedge had' been established along the whole length of the roacf, frontage. The racing and training tracks had received every possible attention. A new residence for the caretaker had been erected to replace the one destroyed by \fire. So far, the club had not been successful in securing the allocation of one of the floating permits to allow it a second day’s racing at its annual race meeting in the coming season. However, it was hoped that the club would be granted the first permit to become available. RACING FIXTURES
