SCARLET FEVER
SLIGHT INCREASE IN AUCKLAND
According to a report received from the Health Department,' 270 cases of tnfectious disease have been notified during July, compared with 253 in June. Of these 136 were in the Central Auckland area. Scarlet fever and pneumonia show the largest increase, but it is not sufficiently marked to suggest an epidemic. Diphtheria show's a decrease of 13 and the other figures are practically the same. The number of cases in the four districts are as follow, last month’s figures being given in brackets: Nbrth Auckland, 41 (34); Central Auckland, 136 (135); South Auckland, 66 (64); Coro-mandel-Opotiki, 27 (20). Following are the total number of cases notified of each disease: Scarlet fever, 74 (61); diphtheria, 69 (82); enteric fever, 10 (8); tuberculosis, 35 (35); influenza, 12 (27); pneumonia. 34 (22); erysipelas, 11 (7); puerperal fever, 14 (2); lethargic encephalitis, 1 (1).
