MUSICIAN’S DEATH

MR. GEORGE F. CATER One of the best-known band conductors in Auckland, Mr. George F. Cater, of 18 Maidstone Street. Grey Lynn, died this afternoon, after an illness of several months. Until a few weeks ago Mr. Cater was secretary of the Musicians’ Union, a position which he had held for seven years. For about 17 years he was conductor of the Auckland Artillery Band, lie had also been in charge of tho Orphans’ Orchestra, the Blind Institute Band and the Leys Institute Orchestra. Four months ago he had a nervous breakdown and his heart became weak. Air. Cater leaves two sons. Air. Herman Cater, of Rotorua, Air. Victor Cater, of Auckland, and a daughter. Miss Alollie Cater.
