Obituary

MR. A. W. WILLIAMSON The death occurred at Puketalia, near Hamilton, yesterday, of Mr. Alexander Watt Williamson, aged 79 years. Mr. Williamson was born at Coven- j try, England, and two years later he j came to New Zealand. Mr. Williamson became a school-teacher, and for many years he was employed at j schools in the Wanganui district. For ; 20 years he was a headmaster at Lower j Hutt, being in charge of two schools | during that time. He retired in 1911. j and during the past four years had lived with two of his sons at Puketaha. He was an elder of the Presby- , terian Church, and a Sunday School teacher for many years. On June 15, i Mr. and Mrs. Williamson celebrated ; their golden wedding. Air. Williamson is survived by a widow, three sons, : four daughters and 17 grandchildren. MR. W. A. WILSON Air. William Arthur Wilson, of Wallace Street, Herne Bay. who died yesterday at the age of 83, arrived in New Zealand from Drogheda, Ireland, with hie wife and seven children in 1886. For some time Air. Wilson was connected with the firm of William McArthur and Company, but later joined that of Archibald Clark and Sons, Ltd., representing it for 25 years in the goldfields. Airs. Wilson died 10 years ago. Air. Wilson is survived by three sons. Air. A. D. Wilson and Mr. W. D. Wilson, of Ponsonby, and Mr. A. T. Wilson, of New Plymouth, and three daughters, Aliss Wilson, of Ponsonby. Airs. H. Weaver of Northcote, and Mrs H. Hamblin, of Herne Bay. Another son, Mr. E. R. Wilson, was killed at Gallipoli. MISS SARAH M. RALPH Aliss Sarah M. Ralph, who died at her home, Arthur Street, Ponsonby, at a. late hour last evening, at the'age of 71, was well-known in Auckland and also in the Waikato, where she lived for many years. The news of her death was received in Huntly with genuine feelings of regret, her name being connected with the history of the town, in conjunction with those of her brothers, Alessrs. E. V. and W. J. Ralph. The list of bequests made to the town include the present hospital grounds, Afethodist Church site, Presbyterian Manse site. Roman Catholic Church grounds, and church and convent. Aliss Ralph had a remarkable business capacity, combined with a philanthropic disposition; and irrespective of denomination her energies were unbounded, and the Roman Catholic Church has lost one of its stalwarts. Miss Ralph is survived by her brother, Air. W. J. Ralph. MR. W. ATKINSON The death occurred at the Palmer- j ston North Hospital yesterday of Air. j William Atkinson, a native of Northern I Ireland, aged 88. Air. Atkinson was only 20 when he j emigrated to Australia. For some j time he was in the Alelbourne con- i stabulary. He later came to New Zealand, and farmed in the South, and in Taranaki. He retired 10 years ago. Air. Atkinson leaves a widow, four daughters and six sons. There are 39 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchil-dren. MRS. M. MUIR The death occurred last Wednesday of Airs. Margaret Muir, at the age of 81. Airs. Aluir, who lived at 22 Vincent Avenue, Remuera, came to New Zealand in the Excelsior at the age of 18, from County Monaghan, Ireland, where she was born. After she had been in the country seven years she married Air. James Muir, at Papakura, and they took up a farm at Waerenga. They lived there until about 20 years ago, when they retired and came to live in Remuera. Air. Aluir, who was a well-known racing man in the Waikato, died three years ago. Airs. Aluir leaves four daughters, Mrs. F. Waite, Airs. J. C. Ching and Airs. J. T. Barrett, of Auckland, and Mrs. A. B. Carley, of Waerenga, and one son. Air. J. J. Muir, of j Taniwha. There are 16 grandchildren. MISS ELIZABETH MAHONY The death occurred early this morning. at the home of Airs. U. Shepherd, Onehunga, of Miss Elizabeth Alahony. eldest daughter of the late Mr. Edward Alahony, of Auckland. Aliss Alahony retired as usual on Wednesday evening in good health, but early yesterday morning she was found in bed unconscious, having suffered a stroke.

Aliss Alahony was born in Cork. Ireland, in 1851, and came to Auckland with her parents three years later, and has lived here ever since. She

was a sister of the late Monsignor Maliony, of Onehunga, and the lab Mr. Thomas Alahony, architect. of Auckland. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Assumption. Onehunga. at nine o’clock to-morrow morning, the funeral proeoeding to th*‘ Symonds Street cemetery immediately afterwards.
