BUTTER THIEF GAOLED
TOOK 500 BOXES TWO YEARS’ SENTENCE Press Association. WELLINGTON. To-day. Arthur I-lobbs, a carrier of -7, was sentenced this morning to two years, with hard labour, for the theft of 500 boxes of butter, valued at £SOO, from Joseph Nathan and Company. It was stated that Hobbs had absconded from bail. The Judge said that the result of prisoner’s action was unfortunate, as the surety had to forfeit £IOO, but counsel said that he would be reimbursed. His Honour said prisoner was a first offender, .but it was not a ease in which the benefits of the First Offenders Act should be extended to him.
