TRIED TO BEAT CASINO
COLOSSAL FRAUD PLANNED MAGNET IN ROULETTE WHEEL (United P-A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and h'.Z. Press Association) LONDON, "Wednesday. A colossal attempt to defraud the municipal casino at San Remo—where the stakes are the highest in the world—and to break the roulette hank has just been discovered. A Milan engineer, Jean Feiri, was dramatically arrested in the roulette room after it had been closed for the night. A nightwatchman caught him inserting a piece of a magnet In one of the roulette wheeis. Investigation revealed the fact that Ferri had arranged with the croupier, who was also arrested, to use ivory balls with metal centres. These balls would have been attracted by the magnet and would have made it possible to forecast with certainty the number where any one of the halls would come to rest. It "is estimated that the casino would have lost £IOO,OOO in one night had the plan been put into operation.
