MR. W. H. BARBOR Mr. Harry William Barbor, of Oriental Bay, died in Wellington yesterday at the age of 89. He was one of the best-known figures in official and mercantile circles. MRS. ISABELLA McLENNAN One of the last original settlers of the Whangarei district, Mrs. Isabella McLennan, died at her home, Kauri, near Whangarei, last week, at th© age of 88. A daughter of the late Mr. William McDonald, Mrs. McLennan came from Nova Scotia in th© brig Gertrude, arriving in Auckland in 1856. Four years later she married the late Mr. Norman McLennan, the marriage being the first to be celebrated at Kauri. She settled there, remaining until her death. Of a family of 12, Mrs. McLennan is survived by six sons and three daughters. Two sons were killed in the Great War. MRS. ELLEN BURCHELL An early Auckland resident, Mrs. Ellen Burchell, of Wheturangi Road, Green Lane, died on Wednesday at the age of 85. Born in London, Mrs. Burchell arrived in Auckland in the ship Hydarple in 1873 with her husband, Mr. John Burchell, and an infant daughter. She had been in Auckland ever since, living at Ponsonby most of the time, but in later years at Green Lane. She had been a member of the Green Lane Congregational Church since its inception and was a charter member of the Myrtle Rebekah Lodge of Oddfellows, of which she was treasurer for 20 years. Mrs. Burchell is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. J. C. Gallaher. There are three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. MRS. SAMUEL TIMMS Another old colonist, Mrs. Samuel Timms, of Wairau Valley, Marlborough, who was well-known in the Nelson and Marlborough districts, has died at the age of 94. Born in Wiltshire, Mrs. Timms came to New Zealand with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Harford, in 1842, when she was eight years of age, and her girlhood was spent at Elope, Nelson. After marrying the late Mr. Samuel Timms, who died 30 years ago, she moved to the Wairau Valley, where she lived until her death. Mrs. Timms was known in that district as “the mother of the Wairau.” Mrs. Timms is survived by seven children of a family of 11. There are 38 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchil-dren and nine great-great-gfandchil-dren. Fell from Tram.—William Green, of Epsom, a single man, aged 60, was admitted to hospital early yesterday evening with head injuries received when he fell from an outward-bound Onehunga car near Grafton Bridge. He did not regain consciousness till this morning and is now fairly seriously ill.
