TRAFFIC CONFUSION
TROUBLE AT DEVONPORT PEDESTRIANS IMPEDE CARS The Devonport Borough Council has found that the pedestrians coming from the new wharf insist on taking the most direct route to the opposite footpath. The angle at which it cuts vehicular traffic has caused officials some perplexity. The bus traffic is held until the bulk of the pedestrians is elear of the road crossing. A safety zone is now to be marked off. Arising from the rearrangement of bus stands and the marking of an adequate cross-over for pedestrians, the taxi stand was moved to the seaside kerb. Several of the owners objected, saying that the spray was damaging the cars. The council moved the stand to the opposite side of the road, but at last evening’s council meeting half of the taxi-owners asked to have the stand put back again to the former position. The council declined the request. The borough still has a solitary horse-drawn wagonette, and it was also allotted a stand.
