Chimney on Fire.—The City Fire Brigade received a call about 7 p.m. yesterday to a fire in a chimney in Cecil Road, Epsom.
Seaman Injured.—Onnie Stenvall. a Finnish seaman, aged 27, from the steamer Golden Forest, was admitted to hospital last evening with head injuries.
Record Rainfall.—The rainfall at Palmerston North last month was 1.29 in, a record for July during the past 16 years. The winter so far has been very mild and dry.
Watersider’s Leg Broken.—When an iron bar fell from a sling last evening, Robert Gore, a single, middle-aged man working on the Wingatui, had one leg broken. He was taken to hospital and later allowed to be taken home.
Disabled Steamer.—The Union Company’s steamer Kaitoke, which is towing the disabled Waitomo to Auckland, reported by wireless that they are expected to arrive here to-morrow afternoon.
Injured by Engine.—While emerging from the railway sheds at Taihape today, Mr. B. Derbridge was knocked over by an engine. He is suffering from a broken forearm and minor abrasions. Mr. S. Lovell, who was with him, escaped injury.
Train Arrangementfc—The Railway Department has arranged from Monday next to stop the usual 8.34 p.m. Frankton Junction-Auckland train at Newmarket to set down passengers, also to stop the 10.30 a.m. AucklundRotorua Express at Ruakura Junction and provide a connecting train from Ruakura to Cambridge.
