Witheford, at one time chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, has passed his 80th birthday. On the motion of Mr. M. 11. Wynyard at yesterday afternoon’s board meeting, it was decided to send the board s congratulations to Mr. Witheford. Mr. F. G. Cray. Wellington manager of the Royal Exchange Assurance Corporation, and chairman of the Underwriters’ Association, has retired. At an assembly of insurance representatives on Monday he was presented with an inscribed gold watch. The death of Mr. John S. Colhoun, formerly headmaster of Ngaruawaliia school and a teacher lor 43 years in the service of the Auckland Education Board, was mentioned with regret at a meeting to-day. and a motion of sympathy with the relatives was passed.
