SHIPPING COMPANY FINED
NO CERTIFICATE OF SURVEY <From Our Oxen Correspondent J HAMILTON, To-day. Several charges w*ere preferred against the Roose Shipping Company in connection with the river boat Mannwai in the Police Court, before Mr. F. \V. Platts, S.M., to-day. For proceeding without a certificate after being warned by the sun eyor of ships, the company was fined £lO. For failing to exhibit a certificate of survey. a fine of £3 was imposed. A fine of £2 wag levied for employing an uncertificated engined river. Charles Watkinson. charged with absenting himself while holding a certificate. was fined 20s and costs. Alexander Coull Reid, surveyor of ships, said that the certificate of tho manuwai expired last May. The vessel was employed for towing, and had been badly damaged. He thought the ! vessel was in an unseaworthy condition, and the master was ordered to take the steamer back to Mercer and have it repaired. However, on July 9, without a licence, the vessel took a. shipload of cargo from Hamilton to Cambridge. Witness said the charge of running without a certificate w?»* J very serious. i The magistrate gave judgment accordingly.
