FOOTBALL HOLIDAY
SCHOOLS HAVE COMPROMISE NOTES WILL BE REQUIRED Boys and girls in Auckland schools may take a half-holiday on Wednesday, if they bring notes from their parents. The New Zealand Rugby Football League made application to the Auckland Education Board to-day to grant a half-holiday for city and suburbap school children so that they might attend tho match, English Leaguers versus Auckland, on Wednesday. “League is not played in the schools,” said Mr. T. XT. Wells. The chairman, Mr. A. Burns, suggested that a compromise of parenuil notes might be granted. The question of whether young children should be allowed to go to big assemblies of the public was raised by Mr. H. S. W. King. He thought it was wrong. Tho Chairman: Please remember when we receive applications from other codes ho\v we deal with this one. Mr. King: The only point is that we let them off for another match. I don’t car© what the code is, as long as it is a good game played in British spirit.
Mr. Wells suggested that only boys of the 4th. sth and 6th standards should be allowed to go at the discretion of school committees. “Don’t give the holiday at all,” said Mr. E. C. Banks.
Mr. King: Well, they have all their lives in front of them for football. It was decided to allow tho children to go at 2 o’clock if notes were brought from parents.
