SCOUT COMMISSIONER
MR. W. J. HOLDSWORTH’S APPOINTMENT PREDECESSOR’S CAREER Mr. W. J. Holdsworth has been appointed District Commissioner of Scouts for the Auckland district, in succession of Mr. R. C. Grigsby. A special meeting of scouters, cubbers, assistants and committee men, will be held in the lecture room, Unity Buildings, on Wednesday, August 8, to welcome Mr. Holdsworth to Scouting circles. Mr. Grigsby, who has been in the Scout movement for about 10 years, joined at the end of 1917 as District Commander of the Auckland No. 2 District (the Diocesan Boy Scouts’ Association). In 1921 the No. 1 and No. 2 districts were amalgamated, and Mr. Grigsby was appointed deputy-provin-cial commissioner. In June, 1922, on the resignation of Mr. Horace Steb-
bing, at that time Auckland Provincial Commissioner, Mr. Grigsby was appointed District Commissioner. The change in the name of the title was due to alterations made in the regulations by the Dominion Executive. In 1926 Mr. Grigsby was given the Honorary Medal of Merit by the Chief Scout, Sir Robert Baden-Paweil, for meritorious service to the movement as District Commissioner for the Auckland Central District.
