APPLES IN HEAVY SUPPLY LITTLE FRUIT ON MAUI POMARE

Fruit is meeting with a generally good demand on the city markets. Apples are in heavy supply in all varieties. Only 400 cases of mixed fruits arrived from the Islands this morning by the Maui Pomare. The lines were mainly for private buyers and bananas were in especially small stock. Pears remain dull of sale and lemons ai’e much easier in value. There is a fair demand for Island oranges. There will be a fresh shipment of citrus fruit from Australia today. This will be sold to-morrow. Only a small quantity of tree tomatoes is being sold. The vegetable market is very heavily supplied with cabbage, and lettuce'. Good supplies of root vegetables are in fair demand. To-day’s quotations are: FRUIT Apples: Stunners, 6s to Ss: Delicious, 6s to 8s 6d; Ballarats, 6s to Ss; Dougherty, 4s to 6s; Granny Smith, 9s to 10s; Munroes, 6s to 95., Pears: Nelis and Coles, 6s to 9s; P. Barrys, 6s to 9s. Tomatoes: Island, 6s to 6s 6d a box; local, 3s to 5s a box; hothouse, id to Del a lb. Oranges: Island, 13s to 14s; Navels. 13s to 14s; Poorman, 7s 6d to Us 6d. Lemons: 8s to 15s.
