N.Z. CRICKET AND TEAMS FROM OVERSEAS
CANTERBURY DISCUSSES QUESTION * Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Opinions on the composition of English cricket teams touring New Zealand were expressed at a meeting of the Canterbury Cricket Association to-night, when a circular letter regarding the proposed by an English team in the 1929-30 season was received from the N«-w Zealand Cricket Council. The letter suggested inviting an amateur side with two professionals. Opinions were expressed to the effect that an effort should he made to secure a stronger reinforcement of professionals, four being suggested. It was feared that an amateur sid* with only two professionals might not prove sufficient of a draw. Another suggestion made was that an “all-professional” side might be invited. One member urged that if the best New South Wales side could be induced to come across to New Zealand, it would get just as good cricket at a fraction of the cost of bringing an English team out. It was decided to endorse the proposal to receive an English team in 1929-30. provided a suitable team wns selected. It was also agreed that in the event of a suitable amateur team not being available, the council should consider asking the Marylebone Club to send a professional team.
