STRONG FINANCES The report and balance sheet submitted at the half-yearly meeting of the Auckland Typographical Union showed the union to be in a strong position, both financially and numerically. The receipts for the half-year amounted to £416 2s 3d. This, with the balance from December 31 last, £1,416 15s lid, made the total on the income side £1,832 18s 2d. The expenditure amounted to £354 5s 3d, of which £ll4 2s 6d was for out-of-work, sickness, travelling, retiring and mortality allowances. The credit balance was £1,478 12s lid, an increase of £6l 17s for the half-year. The number of members had increased by six, and now totalled 350. Various questions of interest to the union and the trade generally were dealt with in the report, including the question of a national unemployment insurance scheme, the proposed amendments to the Conciliation and Arbitration Act and the Technical College. The report and balance sheet were adopted.
