MT. EDEN TO BORROW £2,000 FOR UNEMPLOYED
RELIEVING DISTRESS To be used in unemployment reTief, £2,000 will be borrowed by the Mount Eden Borough Council. The council passed an unemployment loan resolution for that amount last evening. The resolution is io operate as a special order, under the provisions of the Local Authorities Empowering (Relief of Unemployment) Act, 1926, and amendments. The decision w’ill not affect ratepayers’ pockets. Attention to the serious position of the workless was drawn in h letter from the Auckland Hospital Board ABNORMAL PRESSURE “The pressure of applications for assistance Is abnormal,” it said. “The majority of cases are genuine and cannot be refused. Estimates have been exceeded.” The council was asked to co-operate with the board in urging the Government to treat relief expenditure ag national. The letter was received.
