FIGHT IN VICTORIA ST.

AGGRESSOR FINED £3 A scuffle in Victoria Street last evening resulted in Joseph South, aged 45, appearing at the Police Court this morning on charges of drunkenness qnd fighting. John Lennan, aged 41, who was bailed out on the sum of £2. did not appear to share the responsibility of the second charge. “South appeared to be the aggressor,” said the constable who arrested the men. “He abused tho other man, who retaliated forcibly.” Fines of £1 on the first charge and £2 on the second were imposed on South. “The other man seemed quite a decent chap,” said Sub-Inspector McCarthy. “He is employed on & scow which sailed this morning, and his appearance here would have cost him his job. He said that he would rather forfeit his bail than hold up tho boat.” The charge against Lennan was dismissed.
